What's the over/under on Eklund and Garth blogs about him from now until the deadline? I'll take the over!

Happy the Ducks were able to lock up a very good player. In my opinion, I don't think him or Getzlaf are worth more than 7-7.5 per. They got very lucrative deals along with NMC. This reminds me a lot of Rick Nash's extension with CBJ. What's going to happen in a year or two when the Ducks can't ice a competitive team due to cap restraints and one of Perry or Getzlaf want out?

I can't see why the Ducks would trade Ryan this year,
He's under contract for two years after this...
He's in Anaheim till at least deadline time next year unless someone blows them away with an offer

I doubt that either will want out, even if the team struggles, California is (frank)ing awesome and they're getting paid a load of money. Anaheim isn't nearly as bad as CBJ was with Nash in the Howson era. I do agree that neither player is worth that money and depth is going to be a serious problem, especially next year with 25% of the cap tied up in two players.

The Ducks are doing great right now which i'm sure had a large part to play in them both re-signing before the trade deadline. Only time will tell if these two can carry a team on their backs because thats what their going to have to do for the next couple years at least. If they are successful, then the Ducks made a smart move in locking both of them up. But I could definitely see Perry "okaying" a trade if the going got tough.

The Ducks now have two of the worst contracts in the league. Them making almost the same as Crosby, Malkin... and more than Stamkos is ludicrous.

The way to defend it... it's 8 years. Parise, Suter, mabe even kovalchuk.. those are going to look crazy one day

Wow. Getz and Perry sure are solid players, and the Ducks are lucky enough to have them signed into their mid-30's with a hometown discount. $17 MM tied up in 66% of an offensive line. I absolutely love these signings. The future is bright.

Trade Bobby for Yandle....Bobby is great but i think he feels like and outsider from the two that just signed.. If perry left then It might have been different with B Ryan

Weber may be worth his contract, the other two? Well, who knows? Either way the poster wrote "two of the worst", not the top two worst...although I'll grant them that title, and I'll be looking forward to the crow I have to eat in four years if I am wrong.

Those 3 combined with Perry and Kovi probably comprise the top 5 worst in the league. Ryan Getzlaf's isn't quite as bad and IMO he's a better player, but I'd Weber, Suter, or Parise over Perry any day of the week.

But they are not. Over the next 6 years Getz and Pears make about $50M each. Crosby gets $68M.

Crosby, Malkin, etc. - their deals looks better because of the years at the end worth only $1M. If either of these players were signing a contract today the cap hit would be over $10M.

I don't think they'll want to move him right away. Maybe down the road he has to go, but this summer Selanne and Koivu are both off the books. I'd have to assume that if they get re-signed it will be for less money considering their ages, or if they have to be replaced, it will be with cheaper players. They'll have to find a cheaper replacement for Lydman with Fowler's new contract kicking in. Etem will have 2 years left on his ELC. I'm not saying it will be easy, but I think they can do it.

Maybe not a hometown discount. But do you really think they would have gotten less on the open market?

For now the only piece they need to move is a goaltender. Moving Hiller frees up $4M right away. That likely happens in the off-season. Anaheim would then be about $16M under the cap.

Ryan isn't going anywhere for a while.

Malkin's current contract is not front-loaded at all, but Crosby's definitely is. He's got 3 years at $3 million per at the end of it.

I was just thinking about this though.. if Getzlaf gets $8.25M per, what the hell is Malkin going to get next summer? $10M sounds entirely possibly which is insane.

I think as UFA's there is no way they would have gotten more and it's entirely possible that they (well, at least Perry) could have gotten less. Perry has ONE season over 40 goals and 80 points. He's good, but $8.7M? Christ.. I'd take any of the contracts signed last summer over that one. There is no way Anaheim could have afforded to let either of these guys walk as free agents though, so good on them for getting the signings done, but damn.. that is a LOT of money.

New rule. No comparing Getzlaf and/or Perry to Crosby and/or Malkin. Before or after the post-lockout contract limitations. I, like many, just don't want to hear it. Perhaps the number one and number two (whichever) centers in the world are not comparable to a couple of scrubs, albeit solid players, who are not even in the point/game club. Let the ridiculousness end with your owners. Please do not let it contaminate the fan base.

LOL at the kings fan calling RG and CP "scrubs." Bitter, much?

The Ducks now have two "bad" contracts, which really aren't that bad because they are their two best players and those huge salaries were absolutely necessary to get them signed. If they had traded them (in the middle of a playoff race, no less) they wouldn't have gotten anything close to their value. Just look at the Nash trade.

If the Ducks have two bad contracts, the Kings have 4. Doughty gets paid $8M a year? Your second best goalie still has 9 years left on his deal?

And just wait to see what Kopitar's next deal will look like. $10+ easy.
